General & Laparoscopic Surgery

From minor day-care procedures to advanced laparoscopic surgery — performed by experienced consultants with smaller incisions, less pain and a faster return to normal life.

Department Overview

Consultant-led surgical care, planned around you.

The General & Laparoscopic Surgery unit at Consultants Clinic provides elective and day-care surgery for the abdomen, abdominal wall, thyroid, breast and anorectal region. Our surgeons work closely with gastroenterology, radiology and gynaecology in the same building, so imaging, endoscopy and specialist opinions are all arranged under one roof before any decision about an operation is taken.

Every patient is seen and assessed personally by the consultant who will perform the procedure. You receive a clear explanation of the diagnosis, the surgical and non-surgical options, and a written cost estimate before admission — followed by a structured post-operative follow-up plan with wound review, stitch or drain removal and diet advice.

  • Minimally invasive (keyhole) approach wherever it is safe and suitable
  • Day-care procedures with same-day discharge for selected operations
  • Written cost estimate and consent discussion before every surgery

  • A hernia bulge that has become painful or cannot be pushed back

Surgery FAQs

Laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery uses a few small incisions and a camera, while open surgery uses a single larger incision. The operation inside is the same; laparoscopy usually means less pain, smaller scars and a quicker return to work. The right approach depends on your diagnosis and previous surgery, and your consultant will explain which is safer for you.

Most patients go home within 24 hours and return to light, desk-based activities in about one week. Heavier lifting, gym work and driving are usually avoided for 2–4 weeks depending on the procedure. You will be given a written recovery schedule and a follow-up appointment before discharge.

Yes, for carefully selected patients and procedures. You are assessed before the operation, monitored in a recovery area afterwards and discharged only when pain, eating and mobility are all satisfactory. A written contact number and an on-call surgical team remain available to you at any hour during the first days at home.
